Buccaneers Continue to Battle Penalty Issue Through Six Games

The thing that Bruce Arians and Tom Brady preach is playing disciplined football. Although the Buccaneers currently sit at 5-1, the team is still running into problems with penalties.

As of today, the Buccaneers are the second-worst penalized team a game in terms of yardage with 78.5 penalty yards a game. The only team that averages more penalty yards a game is the Los Angeles Chargers with 79.4.

The Buccaneers also have two players ranked in the top five in terms of individual penalty yards. CB Jamel Dean is second in the league with four penalties for 76 yards after committing a 45-yard pass interference penalty last night and S Mike Edwards is fourth with two penalties for 65 yards after committing a 50-yard pass interference penalty.

The team is overwhelmed with injuries right now but that’s not an excuse for the issue of penalties right now. The team has a mini bye after playing last night so they’ll be resting and relaxing this weekend. When they begin practice next week, you can almost guarantee that one of Bruce Arians’ biggest focuses will be cutting down the penalties.
