Could Philip Rivers return to the NFL?

Philip Rivers retired from the NFL following one season in Indy. Rivers is enjoying retirement and eyeing possible booth jobs but may not be finished with playing just yet. Rivers recently told Samer Farmer of the Los Angeles Times that he would listen if the Saints contacted him.

The Saints will be without their starting quarterback Jameis Winston, who suffered a season-ending knee injury in Week 8. The Saints have Trevor Sieman, who is hit or miss but did help guide the team to a win over the Buccaneers, and Taysom Hill, who may or may not be cleared from concussion protocol at some point this week. However, the addition of a proven veteran quarterback could be exactly what the team needs.

It would be a fair assessment to say that Philip Rivers would be an immediate upgrade over the team’s current quarterbacks and did produce a decent final season in the NFL, passing for 4,169 yards and 24 touchdowns. Whether or not the Saints do seek the services of the 17-year veteran, he is listening; and could be willing to come back to the NFL if it makes sense.
