Buccaneers cut WR T.J. Simmons, 4 others to reach roster limit

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers aren’t wasting any time. Two days ahead of the August 24 deadline, the NFL’s defending Super Bowl champions cut their roster down to 80 players.

On Sunday, the team announced waiving of the following players:

Quinton Bell, linebacker
Nate Brooks, cornerback
Troymaine Pope, running back (injured)
T.J. Simmons, Jr., wide receiver
Lawrence White IV, safety

Simmons was one of the wide receivers on the bubble heading into Saturday’s matchup versus the Tennessee Titans and his zero receptions on two targets performance didn’t help.

The carnage really starts on August 31, when teams must reduce rosters to a max of 53 players.
